Kevin Akhurst, who is the Chairman of West Forest Potters, has been making functional and decorative stoneware for twenty years, most of that time from his studio just outside Newbury. He prizes complex and subtle glaze effects and for the last ten years he has been using a wood-fired kiln, adding salt and soda to create and modify glazes.
During the covid lockdown Kevin made a video of a kiln firing for the members of West Forest Potters and put this on YouTube. To his surprise this video has now had 30,000 views, prompted correspondence from around the world and been used in tuition at Clay College. His website is www.kevinakhurst.com
